Den 20. november 2008 indledte politiet efterforskningen mod kvinden Anni Fønsby, som mistænkt for rufferi efter straffelovens § 228, stk. 1 nr. 3. Anni Fønsby havde været en del i medierne blandt andet på grund af en rufferisigtelse, som førte til domsfældelse i 2005, for hendes optræden i Playboy og senest ægteskabet med It-milliardæren Erik Damgaard. Derfor var det forventet, at der ville blive en del medieinteresse om efterforskningen, når den blev offentlig kendt.
