‘A ripping read’
Joe Abercrombie

The SUNDAY TIMES and NEW YORK TIMES bestseller from the award-winning author of the Nevernight Chronicle

It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise.

Ever since, vampires have waged war against humanity building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Gabriel de León, half man, half monster, and last remaining silversaint – a sworn brother of the holy Silver Order dedicated to defending the realm from the creatures of the night – is all that stands between the world and its end.

Imprisoned by the very monsters he has vowed to destroy Gabriel is forced to tell his story – a story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the War of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity’s last remaining hope:

The Holy Grail.

Critic Reviews

‘A gothic bloodbath that will leave any reader breathless. The story is a vast apocalyptic canvass, reminiscent of Justin Cronin’s THE PASSAGE or even Stephen King’s THE STAND, yet Kristoff’s work stands on its own ruthless merit as the opening gambit of a richer tale yet to unfold. I can’t wait to return again to this rich, lush, and bloody world. Until then, read this book now!’
— James Rollins, No.1 NEW YORK TIMES author of THE LAST ODYSSEY and THE STARLESS CROWN

‘A wonderfully crafted tale, the pieces as meticulously interlocked as fine woodwork. A chilling new take on vampire lore and those who must battle that darkness. EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE looks fearlessly at how ruthless Good must become when confronted with unrelenting Evil’
— Robin Hobb, SUNDAY TIMES and NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author

'Brilliant and unputdownable, with tenderness and light bound into the bitter dark of a grim and fascinating world'
— Laini Taylor, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of STRANGE THE DREAMER

'This book is bloody brilliant'
— V.E Schwab, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE

Hmmm

although i did enjoy it and the religious themes, I dont understant why he chose to write in homophobia, the same outcome could have been achieved

Fang-tasticly written and perfectly narrated

Another brilliant action driven story by Jay Kristoff. Best novel I've ever encountered meshing fantasy and vampires.

A must have book to add to your collection

A fabulous book, I dont normally indulge in vampire stories but I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderous take on creatures of the night. So if you are like me, dont be fooled by the heading of this story, it is not about some creepy dude munching on someones neck, be brave and delve into the world of the Silversaint, half man + half vampire = one whole adventure

Unbelievably brilliant.

Epic, twisty, heartbreaking and hilarious. It's beautiful and ugly. It deserves more than 5 stars. Mr Kristoff has torn my heart out, filled me with rage and love in equal parts while also making laugh out loud.

Amazing

I enjoyed the author’s previous books, but this is amazing. The story is told by the main character to a chronicler and switches between present day, his life up to his mid teens and recent past, in a manner which reveals enough to make you want more. Usually when books swap between different periods of time, there will be one period which holds my interest less, but I loved each section of this book and can’t wait til the next one.

Great book. I enjoyed how the book went from past to present. The characters development was great and I really liked the way he showed character development.

Phenomenal

I don't normally do reviews but I feel like this on deserves all the praise it can get. I absolutely loved the performance and the accents the narrator used. If this was to be re-released, I'd probably go for 2 narrators to do Marquis Jean-Francois and Gabriel in the present day so we can distinguish between past and present, but it was okay to follow.

But please read it, listen to it or whatever it is. It is an amazing book with an absolute banger first line which got me hooked!

Great!

Amazing characters, pace and story line. I was on the edge of my seat, or shocked, cry and even excited. Such a range of emotions really tapping into human experiences even with the supernatural elements.
I wish there was more about Gabrielle’s blood line.
