About this listen

'Forget dark academia: give me instead this kind of winter-sunshined, sharp-tongued and footnoted academia, full of field trips and grumpy romance' Freya Marske, author of A Marvellous Light

An intrepid professor must uncover faerie secrets in the delightful and heart-warming second instalment of the Sunday Times bestselling Emily Wilde series.

Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folklore, and has catalogued many secrets of the Hidden Folk in her encyclopaedia with her infuriatingly charming fellow scholar, Wendell Bambleby, by her side.

But Bambleby is more than just a brilliant and unbearably handsome scholar. He's an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother, in search of a door back to his realm.

By lucky happenstance, Emily's new project, a map of the realms of faerie, will take them on an adventure to the picturesque Austrian Alps, where Emily believes they may find the door to Bambleby's realm, and the key to freeing him from his family's dark plans.

But with new friendships for the prickly Emily to navigate and dangerous Folk lurking in every forest and hollow, Emily must unravel the mysterious workings of faerie doors, and of her own heart.

An tale that will immerse you in another dimension

I love the depth of Heather Fawcett’s tales and the genuine and gentle emotion of it all.

Love a different take on 🧚 faeries

Another good book. Would be happy to see another one! I think Emily annoys me as obvious stuff she does, as a professor should know better! But sometimes we don’t learn by our past mistakes.

A brilliant second instalment in the Emily Wilde series

I absolutely love Heather Fawcett's ability to build a world and continue to develop it so readers are as involved in the landscape as they are the characters. It's been a while since I dipped my toes into a new series, and this one has been perfect! I definitely recommend if you like anything Fae related, it is also a good read for those who enjoy historical fiction as it has a nice historical feel being set at the turn of the 1900's.

Already can't wait for the next book in the series

I have loved both this book and the first one. The characters are so likeable and charmingly flawed, I can't get enough of the relationships between the two protagonists. I find the pacing with the story is really good and keeps me interested and engaged. I ended up listening to this book twice in a row because I enjoyed it so much. Bring on number three please!

Also love the narrators, they really add personality to the characters.

Not a formulaic repeat of the first book

It took me a while to understand the shape and the form of book two as I was carrying preconceived expectations. There was also a point at which I was calling minor characters undeveloped. My trust in the author based on the strength of book one was rewarded. I will be listening to this book again, it was enchanting and fantastic.

great book

was worried the 2nd book wouldn't be as good, as is often the case, but I liked it almost as much as the first. another great story, wonderfully written and narrated. my only tiny complaint is there wasn't enough Wendell for my liking, purely as he's unwell, he's not conversing quite as much for some of the story. but still a great read

Love, love, love it!

I hav not been this captivated by a book for the better part of a decade. Wow, characters are flawed, driven and captivating and I'm so invested in their growth!

I was waiting for this..

After finishing the first book I was eagerly anticipating the next. Wonderful and relaxing read. The narrator brings the whole story to life and is skilled at switching quickly between characters and accents, without fault. Loved it!
