Wonderful story
The characters were wonderful, realistic and believable. I listened to this book in two sittings.

A story of faith, love, enduarance and elephants
An English teacher, abandoned in Burma with 64 halfcaste children, at the time of the Japanese invasion. She attempts to get herself with them to India and to safety but everything is against her until she meets a man and his elephants...

Disappointing
The book started OK, and some of the descriptions are great .. But the characters are so weak and their actions unbelievable, dialogues trite, the story gets lost and bits of backfill are used to drag the story along. Really it just gets very silly and annoying from half way through and on .... and the ending is like a boys own story .... And whatever happened to the children who were the focus of the first part of the novel??? And as if Emily would have behaved like that ... And the love scenes were absolutely lacking in emotion and laughable. What a shame the editor didn't do a better job, the author writes well but this novel didn't work.
