About this listen
Generation versus generation, traditional versus contemporary, these men are about to learn a lesson in architecture and love. Can they prove that the old and new can be the perfect design?
A successful New York architect, Thomas Elkin almost has it all. Coming out as gay and ending his marriage before his 40th birthday, he needed to start living his life. Now, four years later, with his relationship with his son back on track, and after a few short-lived romances, this esteemed traditional draftsman thinks he knows everything about architecture, about life.
Cooper Jones, 22 years old, is about to take the architect world by storm. Talented, professional, driven and completely infuriating, Cooper is the definition of Generation Y.
Starting an internship working with Thomas, Cooper is about to knock Tom's world off its axis. Tom can teach Cooper about the architecture industry, but Cooper is about to teach Tom what it means to live.

Beautiful story
I have adored everything I have read by N.R Walker, however I had somehow missed the Thomas Elkin series,
What a wonderful, surprising start to the series is Elements of Retrofit.
I adore Thomas and Cooper, especially whilst they are finding their way to a relationship.
Nick Russo is a great at bringing these characters to life, and I can't wait for more of this series.

Brilliant
Brilliant white collar age gap story with a firecracker who completely wins over his older man. The setting and characters are all brilliant and this series remains as good today as the year it was written.

Ethical minefield had me questioning the relationship
Leading architect, Thomas Elkin, takes a shine to one of the new office recruits, Cooper Jones. Trying to make an office romance work is made harder because Thomas is 44 and Cooper is 22. I couldn’t relax into this story because I kept questioning the motives: Was Thomas having a midlife crisis, defying HR rules and risking his reputation for such a young man? Was Cooper just using Thomas to establish his own career? Were either of them really conscious of any ulterior motives? Gosh, this May-September story made me think. It’s not necessarily prejudiced to question the longevity of age gap relationships given the high likelihood of incompatibility in outlook, experience, physicality, and maturity. Ultimately though, the problem was not age, but the ethics and power imbalance of dating your boss, and both characters knew it was wrong because they took great pains to hide it and asked others to collude. On the plus side, I liked Thomas’s calm demeanour and I thought Nick J Russo’s audiobook narration was excellent. I’ll listen to the other books in the series since the ethical issues will be irrelevant and I should be able to enjoy the characters more.
