About this listen

"Either Side of Midnight is a gripping, gritty thriller with an ingeniously shocking premise and twists and turns you’ll never see coming!" (Liane Moriarty)

One million witnesses. One impossible murder.

An electrifying thriller with a mind-bending premise: one million viewers witness a popular TV presenter commit suicide live on air - yet his twin brother is convinced it was murder.

How can it be murder when the victim pulled the trigger?

At 9.01 p.m., TV presenter Sam Midford delivers the monologue for his popular current affairs show Mr Midnight. He seems nervous, and the crew is convinced he’s about to propose to his girlfriend live on air. Instead, he pulls out a gun and shoots himself in the head.

Sam’s grief-stricken brother, Harry, is convinced his brother was murdered. But how can that be, when one million viewers witnessed Sam pull the trigger? Only Jack Quick, a disgraced television producer in the last days of a prison sentence, is desperate enough to take Harry’s money to investigate.

But as Jack starts digging, he finds a mystery more complex than he first assumed. And if he’s not careful, he'll find out firsthand that there’s more than one way to kill someone....

Either Side of Midnight is a stand-alone novel featuring Jack Quick.

Gripping but trigger warning

First off I'll say that this was a great book with excellent pacing and character development.

On the downside, I feel like a big red flag needs to be put up about suicidal trigger warnings. I knew that this book was going to involve a discussion around suicide from the outset but it is very present throughout the story and is integral to the plot. There are very vivid descriptions of what occurs which fits with the overall tone of the story but caught me off guard and were difficult to deal with.

There is a trigger warning and some resources at the end of the book but I really wish that this was also put at the start of the book.

Extradionary Story

After reading this I wonder if the author has been in need of a mental health review?

Aussies write the best crime!

Bloody brilliant, character development was phenomenal, descriptive yet spare, gritty, compelling, narration spot on- my new favourite books. Can't believe I haven't come across these earlier. Hope he's working on something new as we speak!

Great wee whodunit

Fast paced storyline full of twists and turns.
The narration was easy to listen to.
The finale was a bit odd though

3 stars just about

A lot of good reviews but for me this book was pretty depressing. There are few promising narratives but ultimately it’s a sorry tale with no likeable characters.

Riveting

Loved this. Narrator was fantastic. Highly recommended. I found it compelling, suspenseful and characters were great. Again, narrator totally did the story proud.

Struggled to turn this off!

This story gets you in right from the start, and keeps you there right to the end. The narration is some of the best I've heard, really suits the style of the book. Changes in pace, volume and tone are superbly timed. Don't hesitate, spend your credit on this right now!

Rather depressing and confused at the end

I really did not enjoy this book. The theme was intriguing but certainly not entertaining. Bit long winded could have been shorter.
