في هذه الرواية يرجع الروائي الأسير باسم خندقجي إلى العديد من المؤلفات التاريخية ثم يُطلق العنان لمخياله، ليقدم لنا، مازجا بين التاريخ والخيال، رواية جميلة تدور أحداثها في السنوات الأخيرة من القرن الرابع عشر ومطلع القرن الخامس عشر، وتحكي حكاية بطل صوفي هو الشيخ بدر الدين محمود، ابن قاضي سيماونة من قرى مدينة ادرنة الواقعة في القسم الأوروبي من تركيا، الذي تنقل ما بين القاهرة وتبريز وبروسة وسيماونة، ووصل إلى منصب "قاضي عسكر" الجيش العثماني قبل أن يفجر، بالتعاون مع صديقيه طورة كمال ومصطفى نور الدين وعدد من مريديه، أول ثورة إجتماعية ضد حكم السلطان محمد الاول، الذي تمكن من إخماد ثورته، بالاعتماد على جيشه من الانكشاربة، ومن اعتقال بدر الدين واعدامه شنقا في ساحة مدينة ادرنة سنة 1420.
