About this listen

Siege of Terra Book 7

With the walls of the Imperial Palace in ruins and the end in sight, Sanguinius prepares one final stand. The loyalists are desperate, and the Warmaster’s hordes are certain of their coming victory.

Listen to it because

The myriad battles of the Siege of Terra series are pulling into a taut weave of tension, horror, and certain doom. Just when you thought it was bad, it gets worse.

The story

The walls have fallen. The defenders are broken. The Inner Palace lies in ruins.

The Warmaster’s horde advances through the fire and ash of Terra's dying breaths, forcing the loyalists back to the Delphic Battlement—the very walls of the Sanctum Imperialis. Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters and Herald of Horus, has achieved immortality through annihilation—now he leads the armies of the damned in a wrathful tide, destroying all before them as the warp begins its poisonous corruption of Terra's very soil.

For the Emperor’s beleaguered forces, the end has come. The Khan lies on the edge of death. Rogal Dorn is encircled, fighting his own war at Bhab Bastion. Guilliman will not reach Terra in time. Without his brothers, Sanguinius—the Angel of the Ninth Legion—waits on the final battlements, hoping to rally a desperate band of defenders and refugees for one last stand.

Simply awesome

I have to say, I’ve enjoyed the siege of terra series, but this one is a step change in how the siege is told. A must listen and thrilling.

The best yet in an already excellent series 👍

Well done to both author and narrator.

Gripping, high stakes action throughout as you'd expect, and also peppered with little vignettes that provide flavour without detracting from the main narrative.

Many threads from earlier books and storylines drawn together, most not from the author's own work, which must have been tough - and it's done right.

Can't recommend highly enough and I don't want to wait for the last book.

Engaging story with amazing character moments

The story has some weird timing moments early but turns around an engaging character story that highlights key characters in contrast to each other. The sibling rivalries do a great job of setting the stage for the coming 40k setting.

Spectacular

Awesome in its depiction of the horror and carnage of the closing stages in the siege of Terra. Sets a new standard for 40k fiction.

One Sanguinius standing on the wall...

Stunning: The build up is well paced as always. Revelation abounds and the set up for the next instalment is perfect.

Saving the best for (almost) last!

Wow. What a story. Such insight into Sanguinius, Magnus, Vulcan and Angron. Such an image of desperate, pyrrhic war. Such a great cast of minor characters, most of whom (of course) won’t make it to the next chapter…but they all have such depth. Such a perfect uncovering of the insidious, destructive sunny day friendship Chaos offers it’s followers.

I’ve seen complaints about this novel being an imperial fanboi festival of self congratulations, traversing the poor sensitive world eaters as nothing but comic book bad guys - the world eaters would be lucky to have that much depth. This book shows them and their primarch for exactly what they are, and how foolish they were.

On the other hand, I did not start this book a blood angels or Sanguinius “fan” as such, but wow. As both Lorgar and Rogal said, each in their own way, Sanguinius truly was the best of them.

I’ve not enjoyed a HH book this much for a long time, and it could be a contender for the best of the series.

Blown away

Best in the series, ADB gives you an insight into the war from the everyday soldier and the destruction it has wrought. But also shows the epic duel that has been set up over the last 6 novels. The perfect penultimate book leading into The End and the Death
