About this listen

In the late 1920s, secretary Carol Berkley works directly for the owner of the Fawcett Construction Company. When her boss suddenly becomes seriously ill, Carol bravely volunteers to forego her long-planned vacation and instead travel to another state to resolve problems on a construction project in jeopardy of default. Her boss gives her carte blanche to make decisions on his behalf. She is excited to prove herself and undertake a business role not normally filled by a woman. After Carol overhears a conversation in which the project's chief engineer is implicated in a corrupt bribery scheme, Carol plans to fire him. She feels that she can trust no one, least of all Philip Duskin, the handsome yet earnest and seemingly honest and hardworking engineer. Reading her Bible as she promised her mother encourages Carol as she confronts the challenges and dangers of her assignment. Will she be able to discover what's really happening on the construction site and ensure that the building is completed on time?

Grace Livingston Hill is a beloved and best-selling author of over 100 books.
