About this listen
One hundred and ten centuries from now, humanity has spread across space. And all-powerful machines rule the humans who were once their masters.
It began in the Time of Tyrants, when ambitious men and women used high-powered computers to seize control of the heart of the Old Empire including Earth itself. The tyrants translated their brains into mobile mechanical bodies and created a new race, the immortal man-machine hybrids called cymeks. Then the cymeks' world-controlling planetary computers - each known as Omnius - seized control from their overlords and 1,000 years of brutal rule by the thinking machines began. But their world faces disaster. Impatient with human beings' endless disobedience and the cymeks' continual plotting to regain their power, Omnius has decided that it no longer needs them. Only victory can save the human race from extermination.

The descriptive way in which the authors told the story to me. I was able to be there amongst the characters and backdrops.
The beginning is as important as the middle which is where we find ourselves cinematicaly in terms of the dune universe. I chose

Fourth time listening
I originally bought it as a CD set and it has remained a perennial fave. Had a hankering to listen again after seeing the new movie but no longer own a cd player so downloaded. I wasn't disappointed! Wonderful story, but the standout is the beautiful narration. I love seeing the origin of the dune world

GRAND STORY… grand stage and intimate characters… worthy of LOTR or STARWARS
I loved the immensity of the story and the detailed characters who make the story come to life. I want to read all of it, the whole saga from start to end. I highly recommend this if you like philosophy, futurism, moral dilemmas, and the human condition.
It was fast pace from the start to the end, and it did not give me time to get bored. Definitely worth five stars in every aspect.

Much better than expected
I came into this title very sceptical that Daniel Herbert's universe could be expanded well. I had read the biography of Daniel Herbert written by his son Brian called 'Dreamer of Dune' and enjoyed it greatly so thought I would give this title a chance and I'm glad I did. The book very effectively balanced many characters, keeping the story moving while also making those characters compelling. Will now continue reading the expanded universe as written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson

Superb
The magnificent scope of Frank Herbert's legacy has be beautifully expanded by Brian and Kevin.
This tale is a scary reminder of a path we may only just be starting down. Another posdible prophetic scifi work.
Scott Brick is sublime in his reading as always.
