About this listen

Fleeing from the monstrous Honored Matres - dark counterparts of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood - Duncan Idaho, the military genius Bashar Miles Teg, a woman named Sheeana who can talk to sandworms, and a group of desperate refugees explore the boundaries of the universe. Aboard their sophisticated no-ship, they have used long-stored cells to resurrect heroes and villains from the past, including Paul Muad'Dib, in preparation for a final confrontation with a mysterious outside Enemy so great it can destroy even the terrible Honored Matres. And, deep in the hold of their giant ship, the refugees carry the last surviving sandworms from devastated Arrakis, as they search the universe for a new Dune.

A worthy continuation of the Dune series

I originally read the Dune books in the mid 90's after having grown up watching the David Lynch film as a child. When I had finished it, I was heartbroken that I would never get a resolution to the story that I loved with the cliff hanger that was left at the end of Dune Chapter House. Years later I was aware of the Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert's Dune books, but they were prequels and felt like fan fiction so I paid them little attention.
I ended up listening to the Dune audiobook in preparation to the new film adaptation and had loved the production of it and quickly went through all the original six books. I saw that Scott Brick who had been one of the narrators from the original Dune books was narrating this and thought I could take the plunge as it will be read to me by a familiar voice from the Dune world and it might be more believable. I'm glad I did!
Once again the narration is superb and I no longer feel like this is fan fiction but a solid continuation to the story.

Awesome

Another masterpiece. Hard to fathom that the Dune was written in 1965. However you can see so many characters that have been borrowed by other franchises eg Mentats seem to be where the idea for Spock came from

A worthy addition to the Dune series

A good story. It shows that it was written by much younger and less wise writers compared to Frank H. None the less I appreciated and enjoyed the continuation of the story.
