About this listen
Working from recently discovered files left by his father, Brian Herbert and best-selling novelist Kevin J. Anderson bring us Dune: House Atreides, the prequel, which captures all the complexity and grand themes of the original work while weaving a new tapestry of great passion and momentous destiny into a saga that expands the tale written by Frank Herbert more than 30 years ago.
It is the year 10,154 of the Imperial Calendar, and for four decades the planet Arrakis - called Dune by its inhabitants - has been ruled by the Harkonnen family. But the seeds of change have been sown. On Arrakis, an idealistic young planetologist, Pardot Kynes, goes out into the desert to learn the secrets of its giant sandworms and the priceless Spice they create. And on another planet, Caledon, young Leto Atreides is nearly ready to become duke. The blood feud between House Atreides and House Harkonnen is about to begin.
Drawing on notes, outlines and correspondence Frank Herbert left behind at his death, House Atreides is a breathtaking story of war, treachery, decadence and steadfastness in the face of overwhelming odds.

Worth picking up
Really well done. Some Audiobooks are lifeless due to the reader and this certainly is the opposite of that. Worth using that monthly credit on 👌

Excellent addition to Dune's evolution.
Great stories within stories once again. Reading this, I felt the undeniable connection, rhythm and flow to the original works. I loved the stories, from the opening page to the author inputs at the conclusion.

Great introduction to the Atreides in the Dune Universe
When I first considered reading books by Frank Herbert son and his co-author I was dubious as to whether they would match up to the original Dune books. Let me say that they are equal to the task and bring great depth and colour in swathes of background information and fill out the story of the Dune universe much to my delight. Well worth the read. I’m now going to get the rest of the Dune books and hope all the books are equally good. Enjoy

Great novel, just as good as the originals
Great novel. One thing I noticed was a stronger theme of misogyny among many of the characters than in the original series. Made me a little uncomfortable at times.
