Publisher's Summary
Welcome to a new series by nationally best-selling author Elizabeth Johns. Enjoy the extraordinary tale of four Knight brothers, and one little sister in the Gentlemen of Knights.
Can a sharp-tongued governess become indispensable to a duke?
Rowley Knight, Duke of Knighton, is too busy being a duke to bother with such nonsense as love. With three heirs, he is in no hurry whatsoever to succumb to the lures of the leg-shackles. He is content managing his siblings and estates, and avoiding society whenever possible. If he can only find someone to manage his young sister, life can go back to its proper order.
Emma Lancaster's father gambled away her family's fortune leaving her hopes for a respectable marriage shattered. Destitute and near desperate, she accepts a position as a governess to a young lady at the recommendation of her godmother. Little does she know that her charge is the brother of the man she despises. Can she humble herself to become his employee? Or will her temper get the best of her - and him?

major disappointment
it wasn’t until the end that i realised… ohhhh it’s a chaste romance. which is fine, if done well. this was not.
the main characters were fine. most of the story was fine. there was a gradual progression where they realise they have somewhat of an attraction for each other, but it certainly is never a strong one. somewhat intrigued with learning about each other at most.
their backstory’s are revealed slowly but it’s pretty obvious from the beginning. her story makes no sense - multiple wealthy family members prepared to help but she chooses to starve herself to the point of making a dangerous choice instead, but no explanation as to why.
his backstory is basically that he’s good, does good, doesn’t consider himself and that’s it. he’s meant to be protective of his sister but it absolutely comes off as controlling, and also unbelievable that he got to his age without understanding that ‘females’ experience puberty at some point. i can’t assume he was virginal. he’s also 100% cool with sending a well known nobleman slash head of a major pedophile ring to australia quietly as ‘punishment’, to avoid any scandal (not just for his loved ones but also for the ton and the other nobles who will have to deal with it). but, what, he takes his money and title and ‘skills’ to a new country where he can do the same thing to more innocent children? thanks, but i wouldn’t call this a good outcome.
the biggest problem was the ending. they have this slight attraction they haven’t acted on, no thoughts of being together in any real way, and then suddenly in one moment they both realise they’re in love and immediately marriage is understood. it just didn’t work. they went from 2 to 100 in three seconds and it was the most disappointing thing i’ve read in years.
alex wyndham was, as always, absolute perfection. he was the only reason i made it past the half way mark but even his talent could not redeem the way this story ended. i wish i could go back to the beginning where i realised his talent far exceeded the quality of the story and just get a refund. because this absolutely wasn’t worth the cost, and it wasn’t worth the time.

I wasn't impressed
This is my first Elizabeth johns novel. I won't be in a hurry to listen to another. I found the storyline stutters and stumbles, and is overtly dramatic. I think this might be her first book as it's a tad too soap operatic and a little immature. The relationships just don't make sense.
While Alex Wyndham reads well and gives great inflections to the different characters, he sounds like he read through clenched teeth. I can only assume he didn't want to do this book. Honestly I can't blame him, hope it paid well for him.
