Critic Reviews

"McCaffrey uses great imaginative powers in constructing her intricate and intriguing story." ( Booklist)

Enjoyable listen

An interesting story, that I wanted to keep listening to. It took me a little while to get used to the slower pace of the narrator, but it wasn’t long before I forgotten all about the pace as I became immersed in the story and it became easy to listen to.
Addresses, son difficult parental relationships, and how the main character find freedom to be herself .

A true classic - perfectly written and narrated

I first read this many years ago, and regularly since. However, this was my first Audible version of it and I was pleasantly surprised that is sounded so fresh and modern.
I have always loved this story and thoroughly recommend it to everyone, of any age.

Well Narrated

Enjoyed these books back in my youth...found Sally Darling's narration excellent. It was easy to get "lost" in this audiobook version.

Timeless feel good fantasy

I enjoyed this book, it was lighthearted and could be enjoyed without the complexities of modern writings. I can’t wait to listen to the next book.

Familiar tale, fun reader

This is a return to the tales of Pern for me. I found them familiar and comforting. I really enjoyed the readers accent. There was one or two funnily pronounced words (long-lived) but overall I rate the story and performance 4.5 stars.

Speed up the narrator - perfect!

I found the narrator unbearable to listen too until I read the advice to speed up the playback.
On 1.2 speed, it's as though this was the actual recording speed! All of a sudden the voice and unusual cadences REALLY suits the story.
I've loved the Pern books for decades and found this recording added to my enjoyment,
I highly recommend this recording, just make sure you speed up the playback.
