Publisher's Summary
The first in an epic fantasy trilogy from Sunday Times bestselling author L.R. Lam.
Long ago, humans betrayed dragons, stealing their magic and banishing them to a dying world. Centuries later, their descendants worship dragons as gods. But the 'gods' remember, and they do not forgive.
Thief Arcady scrapes a living on the streets of Vatra. Desperate, Arcady steals a powerful artifact from the bones of the Plaguebringer, the most hated person in Lumet history. Only Arcady knows the artifact's magic holds the key to a new life among the nobles at court and a chance for revenge.
The spell connects to Everen, the last male dragon foretold to save his kind, dragging him through the Veil. Disguised as a human, Everen soon learns that to regain his true power and form and fulfil his destiny, he only needs to convince one little thief to trust him enough to bond completely - -body, mind, and soul - and then kill them.
Yet the closer the two become, the greater the risk both their worlds will shatter.

Best Dragon BF
What surprised me most was the great performances, especially by Philip with Rebeca's audio quality varying quite a bit unfortunately.
This story is a good introduction to the world and characters but as the first in the series it leaves a lot to be explored and doesn't resolve too much. It also would have been nice to explore the differences between the two cultures/personalities/behaviour of human and dragons, as Effren feels a regular boy after about a week.
Appreciate the ambiguity of Arcadies gender although Rebeca obviously brings a hefty dosage of femininity to the character.
Overall good listen and adorable dragon bf.

a fresh take on some well worn tropes
you’d think going into this you know how it’s going to go, thieves and dragons both having been fantasy staples forever. But L R Lam has made what could have been cliches in to fully realised fantastically flawed people. My only disappointment is that I have to wait for the next book in the series

unusual story well told
good story - you can never quite tell where it is going, which is not common.
A little slow going at times but intriguing.
initially I did not love the voices of the narrators, but they grew on me,
Am very curious how it will end.
would recommend a listen!
