heading

I really enjoyed these 5 episodes. The narrator wasn't boring and tried to make the reading have light and shade

Good story, pity about the terrible narration

Breaks in the middle of sentences, really messes up the flow, reduces the ability to make sense of the book when you’re doing other things like driving. Husband was convinced this was an AI narrator. Either it was AI or never read the page before narrating it. Sloppy work. Serves me right for not listening to a preview.

Outstanding YA fantasy adventure.

‘Dragon School’ is outstanding YA fantasy adventure featuring Amel Leafbrought, a teenage girl beginning her career as a  dragon rider.

Despite significant physical and social challenges, Amel demonstrates determination, integrity and resilience, presenting a really good role model for young people who often confront obstacles of one kind or another in achieving their goals. Her discovery of abilities that others do not have is a powerful element of Amel’s narrative, and serves as a strong encouragement for others who experience physical disabilities or limitations.

Amel's experiences of other people, whether peers, teachers or dragons, demonstrate important lessons about the importance of careful discernment about who should be trusted, and about the true nature of friendship.

This series is highly original and well constructed. The story progresses at a very good pace, with plenty of adventure balanced by reflection and the development of friendships and connections between characters. The imagery is colourful and detailed, the characters diverse and varied, and the complications and problems they face are compelling.

The world building is unique and interesting, featuring complex and thought-provoking social systems, detailed and thoughtful architecture, and geography quite unique to this world.

The narration by Jigisha Patel, is clear and fluent, with excellent diction and expression, although there are a couple of minor errors. Her use of voice and tone to develop character and deliver the narrative results in a compelling story that is as engaging and enjoyable as Wilson’s writing.

While there are more episodes to follow, this audiobook ends with sufficient resolution to satisfy the audience, and a tantalising promise of more adventure to come.

Young narrator but fantastic story

Hard to know who said what as narrator could have made different characters voices clearer.

great story

I think the story is quite imaginative and original. unfortunately it is in need of a good editor to tighten it up and a narrator who has a better range of voice differentiation and doesn't sound so stilted. in spite of this I did enjoy it

Good story, simplistic writing

The story is a good one and one worth telling. But the writing was too simplistic. It's like it was written for a young audience probably 8 year olds. However some of the themes are targeted at an older audience mid to late teens.
The narrator has a pleasant enough voice but sometimes makes the characters sound too whiny and the male characters feel like they are all little boys.

Lightweight story

Having recently read 2 books on dragon riders in a new series of 5, this storyline this seemed very lightweight, perhaps more suitable for an early teen reader. The lack of detail and description was noticeable throughout. I personally found the narration annoying, mainly due to strange pauses in areas that didn’t make sense ie halfway through a sentence. The lead character also uses a crutch, which on several occasions sounded like it was pronounced crotch.

Just so average

The story feels under developed, the characters lack depth and the world building could be better. But still I enjoyed this lightweight read enough that I made my way through 1-5 on Kindle. The Audible version however, is pretty awful to be honest. Full of
errors and lacking appropriate expression, and the character voices blend into each other as they all sound the same. Lesson learned, always listen to the sample before buying.
