About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
This Penguin Classic is narrated by Mark Gatiss, who also wrote the screen play for the critically acclaimed BBC adaptation. Gatiss has also had an extensive acting career including roles in Sherlock, which he wrote alongside Steven Moffat, The League of Gentlemen and Wolf Hall.
When Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to help Count Dracula with the purchase of a London house, he makes a series of horrific discoveries about his client. Soon afterwards, various bizarre incidents unfold in England: an apparently unmanned shipis wrecked off the coast of Whitby; a young woman discovers strange puncture marks on her neck; and the inmate of a lunatic asylum raves about the 'Master' and his imminent arrival. In Dracula, Bram Stoker created one of the great masterpieces of the horror genre, brilliantly evoking a nightmare world of vampires and vampire hunters and also illuminating the dark corners of Victorian sexuality and desire.

Forget all the hype - a wonderful detective story
No doubt you have heard all about Dracula and, like me, though that the supernatural and horror stories are not your 'cup of tea'. But I decided to have a go - and I could not put it down. This is a wonderful book - it is a cleverly told detective story about those who decided to pursue Dracula and his bad habits - and whilst vampires and spooky things do feature, the 'horror' component is measured and forms an integral part of the story. Bear in mind that all / most detective stories have their gory bits! Bram Stoker published Dracula in 1897 yet it is also amazingly 'fresh' and easy listening - the narration and accents are superb. I am an avid Audible listener (well into my hundreds) and this is in my top 10. So set aside any prejudices you may have - and give it a go. You might be pleasantly surprised. I was!

Suspenseful and Engaging
This novel is certainly worthy of it’s modern status as a classic of gothic literature. Dracula managed to provoke such interest and at times emotion within me as I read which I had come to take for granted as a product of modern literature. Despite the occasional reminder of the outdated views of the time regarding gender and race, this novel captures the mind and heart within the slow burning suspense of its pages that will surely engage any reader with an interest in fantasy horror.

Absolutely incredible
This is one of my favourite books of all time. I can picture each and every scene and character so clearly! The narrator has done a superb job. I wish the book didn’t end as it’s hard to find another book just as good!
