About this listen
The incredible first memoir by System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian
With nearly 40 million record sales, three albums topping the Billboard charts, a Grammy win and a legion of fans, System Of A Down are one of the biggest metal bands on the planet. At their core has always been Serj Tankian, whose journey from the streets of Beirut to rock superstardom is as remarkable and unlikely as you'll get.
By dint of luck, circumstance, struggle, and more than a little talent, Serj has had the chance to live an extraordinary life. In Down With the System, he retraces this remarkable and unlikely journey, and explores what it's taught him - about music, about art, about activism, and about himself. From teaming up with Tom Morello to push social justice causes on unsuspecting metalheads, arguing with LAPD officers over the best way to quell his rioting fans, and traveling with Anthony Bourdain through Armenia one meal at a time, Down With the System is an immigrant's tale, an activist's awakening, and rock memoir unlike any other.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Following the story of Serj's life, to understand who he is.
I admired the strength in his activism & demanding justice against all odds.
The importance of appreciation to nature,
and navigating through life to find real purpose.

The memories!
This book let me in on more of the Serj I met back in 2002 and the person he has become. it brought back fantastic memories of the time I spent with him in my hometown and at the big day out in Sydney. Loved it Serj and congrats on your family! Jamie

Serj. Telling his own story
Wow. I have a new appreciation for system’s music. I have always appreciated the melody’s and my dad first introduced me to them through the song spiders. I’ve never been a hard out metal head. But now after reading the book and maybe because I am mid 40’s I hear them in a completely different way. Thank you system for the music, book, and explaining the journey. All the best. P.S I love the fact you found a sanctuary in NZ. Peace.

Wowza…
I have been a massive SOAD fan for years, however listening to this memoir - of sorts gave me a whole new appreciation for the band, for the Armenian history, for the very reason they do what they do. Well worth the listen. 🤟

Everything you expect from Serj but with the detail needed to understand.
No review needed, If you know System then you know Serj and the direction this is heading.
you may have heard snippets over time as I did and this does all those hear-say's justice and then some.

A wonderful book that educates both about politics and about a world loved band.
Serj did such a beautiful job combining both information to spread awareness and to talk about a band that many of us love. His mixture between stories of his family’s struggles and successes, as well as the backstory to different songs SOAD created was beautifully balanced and encapsulating. He’s a true artist and activist.
Thank you Serj and SOAD for creating a space for awareness on genocide to the Armenian people to those who would have otherwise never had the opportunity to learn. I’m in Australia and I had only learned of the Genocide in Armenia through SOAD and now through this book.
I genuinely hope that he decides to release more art to educate as it’s been amazing to hear it from someone who had a big impact on my childhood through music.
