About this listen
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Down to the Woods by M.J. Arlidge, read by Sally Scott.
There is a sickness in the forest. First, it was the wild horses. Now it's innocent men and women, hunted down and murdered by a faceless figure. Lost in the darkness, they try to flee, they try to hide. In desperation, they call out for help. But there is no-one to hear their cries here...
DI Helen Grace must face down a new nightmare. The arrow-ridden victims hang from the New Forest's ancient oaks, like pieces of strange fruit. Why are helpless holidaymakers being targeted in peak camping season? And what do their murders signify? Is a psychopath stalking the forest? Is there an occult element to the killings? Could the murders even be an offering to the Forest itself? Helen must walk into the darkness to discover the truth behind her most challenging, most macabre case yet.
'Helen Grace is one of the greatest heroes to come along in years' JEFFERY DEAVER
'The new Jo Nesbo' JUDY FINNIGAN
'Fast paced and nailbitingly tense ... gripping' SUN

Really Dissapointing
Predictable and highlighted a totally incompetent police force.
We had a woman officer in the woods who outran her entire backup team to the point where not one saw where she went. This experienced officer then manages to get her leg caught in some trap and saved in the nick of time by an officer who does not run after the suspect who has ran into his house. The not insignificant team also saw no reason to pursue their suspect.
Not one of the many officers there thought that there may be a back door in his house so, predictably, the suspect got away.
Same sort of thing happens at the end - Helen out runs her entire team who, with all their torches didn't see that she fell down a hill and hurts herself. Quite predictably, the killer does find her in her weakened state and the predicable happens again.
Such a disappointment when the other books have been reasonably good. The best part though is we were spared the S&M.
