About this listen
New York Times best-selling author of The Good Girl Mary Kubica returns with an electrifying and addictive tale of deceit and obsession.
In downtown Chicago, a young woman named Esther Vaughan disappears from her apartment without a trace. A haunting letter addressed to "My Dearest" is found among her possessions, leaving her friend and roommate, Quinn Collins, to wonder where Esther is and whether or not she's the person Quinn thought she knew....
Meanwhile, in a small Michigan harbor town an hour outside Chicago, a mysterious woman appears in the quiet coffee shop where 18-year-old Alex Gallo works as a dishwasher. He is immediately drawn to her charm and beauty, but what starts as an innocent crush quickly spirals into something far more dark and sinister than he ever expected.
As Quinn searches for answers about Esther and Alex is drawn further under the stranger's spell, master of suspense Mary Kubica takes listeners on a taut and twisted thrill ride that builds to a stunning conclusion and shows that no matter how fast and far we run, the past always catches up with us in the end.

Kubica is growing.. (slowly)
im still trying to decide if i dislike the voices, or if the voices excelled at portraying the characters.. like when you watch a movie and distaste the bad guy, realising its not the actor you hate, but becus the actor did such a good job to make u hate the character..
i read a review that stated there were so many twists and turns and the author did something i havent experienced yet. usually a twist comes out of nowhere.. but in this book a twist would swoop in and i would think i knew the secret and would be unsatisfied, then another twist would come in and id think once again.... oh okay, well now i know so ehh..and then bam another twist.
would have preferred to read this book rather than listen to it.. but it is an easy read..
I can see this as a movie oneday.

Not great...but not terrible.
This book wasn't shocking but it certainly wasn't Mary Kubica's best work. I quite enjoyed the Good Girl - but this seemed boring and predictable in comparison. The male narrator is ok... though it is hard to imagine a teenage boy when you are listening to his voice. Also, he is the same narrator as Nick from Gone Girl. I found it hard to separate the two.
Overall, the story line was fairly weak and (most) of the characters were underdeveloped. I wouldn't recommend it.
