First

This is the first book I have read by Karen Rose and really enjoyed the story well written about domestic abuse and especially when the abuser is a police officer. How brave are the people who have the courage to escape. Jeff Harding never disappoints when narrating. All in all a good read.

Quite good

I didn’t expect this book to be as good as it was based on my first impression of the front cover but I was pleasantly surprised. The narrator was very good except for imitating female voices which could be expected.

Emotional story

Great storyline and very emotional. It’s difficult to appreciate it with the male voice over who is clearly an older gentleman but I loved it anyway.

Narration was not a good listen...

I found the narration of this book very offputting but persevered because the storyline was interesting.

Narrator ruined it

Unfortunately the narrator ruined the story for me, especially when reading woman’s voices. The story on the whole wasn’t too bad but failed to engage me mainly due to the narrative.

Audible page turner.

This is one of those books that I could not stop listening to, a real page turner. The only negative was the falsetto voice used by the male narrator. Recommended for suspenseful listening.

Shallow characterisation and cliched dialogue

I like the fact that the author is one of the few writers who has taken on the task of telling the story of violence against women in the home. However, the characters in this novel are stereotypes and their dialogue cliched. But I thank the author for courageously shining a light on one of the most common sorts of assault in the world - the one in our homes.
