A childhood favourite still just as good!

I can’t count how many times I borrowed this audiobook from my school library in the nineties, and to find it nearly 20 years later brought back so many memories. This is a hilarious book about life, and relationships, told through the eyes of a stereotypical Australian 12 year old recounting his experiences on school camp. However it is not simply a children’s book, the author confronts alcoholism head on, among other social issues, delicately weaving the child’s observations and innocently formed opinions into a tale that is rich with humour and love. The performance enhances the story, making you feel like you were having your ear chewed off by our enthusiastic youngster. I loved this as a child, and I am pleasantly surprised at the layers it contains and the questions that are left unanswered for an adult mind. I can’t recommend this enough!

Love it!

Listened to this when I was a child and I'm very glad to have found it again.

Great story, very emotional, now I'm able to understand a lot of the jokes that went over my head as s kid.

Good Book, bad recording

What would have made Don’t Pat the Wombat better?

I downloaded this wanting to do a listening post for my child that is reading the book. My son was reading the book as he was listening. This audiobook skips paragraphs and even chapters and makes following along to increase his reading fluency skills a heartache. Not worth the download at all. If you're going to make an audiobook for it at least have the whole book (the ending was chopped off) and don't skip paragraphs let alone chapters.

Great listen for a family road trip

Extremely entertaining for all ages. Highly recommend this story. The only issue was that the ending was cut off in this audible version
