Publisher's Summary

It can be hard for those of us living in the 21st century to see how 14th-century Buddhist teachings still apply. When you’re trying to figure out which cell phone plan to buy or brooding about something someone wrote about you on Facebook, lines like "While the enemy of your own anger is unsubdued, though you conquer external foes, they will only increase" can seem a little obscure. Thubten Chodron’s illuminating explication of Togmay Zangpo’s revered text, The Thirty-Seven Practices of Bodhisattvas, doesn’t just explain its profound meaning; in dozens of passages she lets her students and colleagues share first-person stories of the ways that its teachings have changed their lives. Some bear witness to dramatic transformations - making friends with an enemy prisoner-of-war, finding peace after the murder of a loved one - while others tell of smaller lessons, like waiting for something to happen or coping with a minor injury.

So very practical and concise.

This is a wonderful book on the 37 verses of Bodhisattvas. Clear explanation on each verse accompanied with modern day reflections on the path from a variety of practitioners experiences.

Some say the title doesn't fit, however I believe it does, very well. If we were to believe everything we thought we'd never get anywhere close to even an aspiration to help others, let alone all others.

Loved it. Will re-listen too.

This book changed my life in so many ways for the better.
Helping me to heal in many ways I did not understand possible, changing my perspective on the way I view this world and the compassion and kindness I now feel for others is incredible.
Ever since I began reading this book, I have been kickstarted into a journey of healing, love and light.
I could not recommend it more.

Antidote to suffering

Nobody can escape life suffering, according to the first Noble Truth, be it sickness, death of loved ones, separation from what we are attached to, or being forced by circumstances to put up with what our ego dreads. Then, how do we cope?

It’s not the first book on Buddhist approach to life I listened to, but one of the most practical, clear, kind yet non-complacent. Feeling very grateful to many generations of monks who studied their mind thoroughly and came up with a coherent worldview and a “life manual” we all need. This rendition of Buddhist practice is of great merit. It would be useful both to newbies and people who have been on a spiritual path for a while but feel stuck in their evolution: this book might well unstuck you if you have enough humility to look into the mirror it presents to you.

Not interested in your personal life

Some conent is of value but overall his tone and delivery is paternalistic. Typical example of someone with limited competence overestimating his abilities. And seriously, please spare us with all your romantic failures.
