About this listen
A blend of literary fiction, psychological suspense and supernatural horror from the author of A Head Full of Ghosts.
Late one summer night, Elizabeth Sanderson receives the devastating news that every mother fears: her 13-year-old son, Tommy, has vanished in the woods of a local park. Riddled with worry, pain and guilt, Elizabeth is wholly unprepared for the strange series of events that follow. As the search grows more desperate, and the implications of what happened become more haunting and sinister, no one is prepared for the shocking truth about that night.

Exceptional narrative; remarkable narration.
Erin Bennett is an excellent narrator, bringing characters alive from the pages to your ear. I was really impressed how each character had its own qualities & voice which was easily discernible from one another.
Paul Tremblay certainly has his own special style of telling a story. Even just the way each conversation in the tale is written; it’s different & easier to follow along (for lack of a better description- if you’ve experienced this audiobook, you may know what I mean).
I listened to ‘Disappearance at Devil’s Rock’ over four days of periodic intervals. I found each character intriguing & so well formed by the author; their feelings, thoughts & actions were portrayed with a (sometimes dark) depth & fullness I really appreciated. It’s easy to get carried away in the tides of a narrative when the characters within are relatable &/or feel like real people rather than fiction.
This being my first Paul Tremblay experience, I am definitely keen to traverse more of his works. He has great perception & insight into the human psychological clockwork..
I gave 5 stars for my rating as: I found the story intriguing, the writing style unique, the narration perfectly performed (with subtle vocal conversions for each character). Additionally, I’ve been left with a strong need to discover more from Paul Tremblay...
I recommend this audiobook to any mature minded individuals who have a proclivity for drama, suspense & the strangeness of the human psyche.

Not my favourite - but not bad
The story had some unexpected twists in it. I found the narrator's way of reading made me dislike the characters a little in some parts. Good story once it got going but I did find it pretty slow at the beginning and nearly gave up on it more than once.
