Andersch setzte sich mit den Folgen der NS-Diktatur ebenso auseinander wie mit der Avantgarde des Denkens und der Literatur. Bis zu seinem Ausscheiden Ende 1953 präsentierte Andersch das, was in den zwölf Jahren unter Hitler verboten oder unterdrückt worden war.
