 1875 erschien "Rulaman", eine "Erzählung aus der Zeit des Höhlenmenschen und des Höhlenbären". Sie hausten in den Albhöhlen, die das Wasser über Jahrtausende in den Kalk gefressen hatte. Kalkgestein und Wasser, Symbole für das Schicksal der Schwäbischen Alb. Mit Steinen übersät sind die Äcker der Hochfläche, wo bis weit in unser Jahrhundert hinein Wassernot das Leben der Bewohner beschwerlich machte.

Zwar war ganz Württemberg über Jahrhunderte nicht gerade mit Reichtümern gesegnet, aber selbst hier galt die Schwäbische Alb als besonders karg und ärmlich. Deshalb versuchte die staatliche Wirtschaftsförderung, in der besonders abseitigen Gegend rund um Ebingen eine leistungsfähige Textilindustrie zu fördern. So entstanden zahlreiche kleine und große Fabriken, die auch Heimarbeit vergaben und die Basis dafür bildeten, dass die Alb Anschluss an die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung fand. Regie: Carola Preuß
