Als sogenannter Erster Hetran der Galaxis kooperiert Perry Rhodan zum Schein mit den Okkupanten. In Wirklichkeit bereitet er hinter ihrem Rücken den Befreiungskampf vor. Hilfe verspricht ihm der larische Rebell Roctin-Par, der mit seiner Widerstandsgruppe in der Dunkelwolke Provcon-Faust Unterschlupf gefunden hat.

Rhodan erlebt auf seinem Flug in diese Region der Milchstraße die Schrecken der Dunkelwolke. In der Zwischenzeit wird auf der Hundertsonnenwelt der Posbis eine Waffe gegen die SVE-Raumer entwickelt. Doch die Laren reagieren mit fürchterlicher Vergeltung, der offene Krieg droht. Perry Rhodan lässt das Solsystem in die Zukunft versetzen, um die völlige Vernichtung der Erde zu verhindern. Damit zieht sich der Terraner vom Amt des Ersten Hetrans zurück. Andere Mächte wollen an seine Stelle treten - und ein mörderischer Kampf um die Macht entbrennt...
