Als sie das Elfenreich verlassen muss sind sieben Jahre vergangen. Sie heiratet Ihren Jugendfreund und bekommt eine seltsame Tochter, frühreif und wunderschön, welche von Anbeginn in einer anderen Wirklichkeit lebt. Doch dann steht Marie vor einer Entscheidung, muss sie ein altes Versprechen brechen? In beiden Fällen hätte die glückliche Zeit ausgespielt gehabt.

Ludwig Tieck, geboren 1773 und gestorben 1853 in Berlin, gilt als "König der Romantik" (F. Hebbel). Er studierte Theologie, Philosophie und Literatur und gehörte ab 1799 zur Jenaer Frühromantik. Seit 1825 Dramaturg des Hoftheater in Dresden. 1841 wurde er von Friedrich Wilhem IV. nach Berlin gerufen. L. Tieck galt bei seinen Zeitgenossen als bedeutendster Dichter nach Goethe.
