 Das Adriatische Meer ist benannt nach der italienischen Stadt Adria in Venetien, die sich gleichsam am Scheitelpunkt des nördlichsten Seitenbeckens des Mittelmeeres befindet. Unsere Reise rund um diesen schmalen, über achthundert Kilometer langen Meeresarm, der vielfach synonym für die Schönheit des Mittelmeeres genannt wird, beginnt allerdings viel weiter südlich, unweit der Straße von Otranto am Eingang der Adria.

Der "Autostrada Adriatica" nach Norden folgend besuchen wir Bari, die Tremiti-Inseln, den Monte Conero nahe Rimini, die Lagune von Grado und Triest. Im Zweiten Teil der Reise geht es von dort zur Bucht von Piran und in den slowenischen Karst, bevor eine wundervolle Reise von der Kvarner Bucht über die istrischen Inseln bis nach Dubrovnik die Schönheit Kroatiens würdigt.
