About this listen

Pushed to breaking point, Cara Burrows flees her home and family and heads for a five-star spa resort. All she wants is space and time to think, far from everyone she knows. Instead she gets a shock in the middle of the night when she is given the key to a room that's already occupied - apparently by a father and daughter, who are equally shocked to be woken by a stranger.

Back at reception, Cara gets an apology and the key to a new room, and she imagines the drama is over....

America's most famous murder victim, Melody Chapa, has been dead for years. Her parents are serving life sentences for killing their young daughter. But if Melody's dead, how can Cara have seen her?

Would be good as a movie

Personally, I didn’t overly like the narrators voice. The story was alright. I wasn’t a big fan of it going back to interviews between characters. That made me think it would be better as a movie which I rarely think about for a book. The last few chapters as it all was revealed was good. I didn’t find myself hooked until then though.

The Narrator OMG

Sorry but my 6 year old can do a better less annoying American accent.
I really wanted to return the book but felt I couldn't as I had to warn others.
The story was the only thing that kept me listing.
My ears have been assaulted in the worst kind of way.

Not my style

The reading was good but the story wasn’t captivating enough for you to want to go back and keep reading... next

Beware the Narrator

I'm reluctant to leave a negative review because I feel this story could actually be a good one. The narrator, in her native English accent, is very capable. However, the attempts at American and Asian accents are completely unconvincing and, unfortunately, intolerable. I stopped 1/4 of the way through because I couldn't put myself through another minute. A real shame. :(
