About this listen

There is something strange about Miss Demeanor, the 35-foot sloop that sits anchored on Florida's Indian River. She has no mast and hasn't moved in more than a year. The boat’s origin and what secrets are on board unfold when 23-year-old Andy Dugan, an avid sailor from Maine, enlists help from a laid-back surfer to claim the boat as salvage. Complications arise when Mario Costello, the true owner, deems it safe to retrieve the boat's illicit cargo.

Enter Ernie Hanson, the drunken dockyard owner, who is searching for the boat as compensation for settling a debt owed by Costello. The plot intensifies when Andy, Mario, and Hanson become entangled in a bizarre mix of deceit, fatuity, and a touch of romance. Although their motives may vary, none of them realize the boat's cargo could prove fatal.

As summed up by Bill Bushnell, reviewer of Maine's Kennebec Journal/Morning Sentinel, "Leggett demonstrates a refreshing talent for careful plots, goofy characters and subtle twists. This is fun reading."
