Great story telling
With a real, genuine warmth in its lack of pretension. I hope audible will continue to release these wonderful books.

Great books. Narrator excellent, with one flaw.
I have read the original editions of these books many times. While I enjoy the depth of story and characters, I understand that the complexity involving reincarnation of the major characters across many generations might be confusing to the first-time listener. I use the wiki frequently as a reference to keep track of the different incarnations of each character.
The narrator might be one of my favorite narrators. My only complaint is that she raises the volume of her voice into a loud near-shout whenever a character shouts in the text. 99% of her narration is great, so the issue is not bad enough that the audiobook is not worth buying. However, I hope my comment somehow changes how future books are narrated...

Outstanding
I began reading these books in the 90s. It is so wonderful to listen to them and relive the stories again.
The voices are excellent, I can’t wait to hear the rest of the series.

My favourite fantasy series
What a joy it was to discover the first four in the Deverry series available for one credit. I’ve read the series twice over a couple of decades and am loving the audio version.

Enjoyed it
Actually quite liked this series. Nevin is a great character. Starting out with incest had me thrown, but it’s worth the listen

A classic adventure story!
Great reading of Katharine Kerr’s adventure series. I’ve enjoyed rediscovering this story and series having read it 20 years ago.

Took a while
I read these books years ago and enjoyed them then.
I found the narrator difficult to listen to at the start, but eventually she sounded perfect for the story.
I do wish there was a list of characters and places because sometimes the characters get confusing when they start with the same initial. This is all sci-fi/fantasy stories.

Loved this!! a fantasy materpeice
I loved this so much. Great story and great narrator. I'm hard to please when it comes to high fantasy/audio books. Robert Jordan and Tolkien etc.. The only thing is I've just realized that only these first four books are on audible. I'm going to have to read the rest of this long series the traditional way!
(Additional review after listening up to book eight so far...)
I am a pretty hard man to please, not much can compare to Tolkien or Robert Jordan in my opinion. But this series in just so good, so deep. I remember it in the book shops when I was a teenager in the 90's but never have read them till it was recorded to Audible very recently. The story, charactors and themes are just so good. So adult, deep. Ruth Urquhart does a brillant job of the narrating. I cant recommend this series enough for anyone who is a fan of Fantasy. Or just a very good story. I laughed, I cried. I loved the way the story bounces to the past. I've recenly bought all the hard copy versons of these books as I loved it so much. I cant believe I had never read these books till now, honestly. And so happy that all the books are now being made into audio books.
Thanks.
(another later addition)
I've just listened up to the book The fire Dragon (book12?). I cried my eyes out at some points in these books when my favorite charactor met some terrible tragic end. I laughed with joy at other times at some epic battle moment. I now believe these books are going to end up real classics after Katharine Kerrs' passing like other great fantasy authors. These books just get better and better as the nature of the stories are Kerr goes back into the past to fill in the gaps in these epic stories of people born into the world again and again and their interconnectedness with each other. Like Jordans charactors, Kerrs portral of the people are so real. I find myself telling my wife, 'I know a person just like that....I know a relationship just like that....' If you are a mature reader of fantasy(not meaning old, I'm 42), then you must at least read these first four books once in your life.... getting all four in one is a total bargin too.
