About this listen

One captain’s death might turn out to be humanity’s best chance at survival.

As humanity expands into the stars, it discovers the universe is a hostile place.

When Captain Slater of the USS Franklin is assigned to a deep-space reconnaissance mission, his ship is destroyed by an unknown alien race.

Much to his surprise, Slater isn’t killed - he’s transformed. He is now a “derelict” - a consciousness bound to his old vessel.

Slater must quickly adapt to his new existence before raiders, alien armies, and mysterious forces seek to destroy him for a second and final time.

Worth continuing

A little slow at the start, but I found it to be worth continuing to listen. By the end, I was wishing the second book was already available.

I found the voices a little distracting. Even the female voices sound masculine (especially the first one). With the technology available, the sound production personnel should be able to do a better job even if the voice actor can’t.

On the up side, the grammar the author uses and his ability to describe exciting situations without needing to endlessly swear; I salute you. Well written! Keep up the good work.

Fantasy in Space!

Thank you for a wonderful twist and take on a space opera. I am looking forward to seeing this story unfold as time progresses.

Couldn't do it.

Really struggled to enjoy this. Nothing against the writer or story. But I found the narration performance terrible.. The accents the narrator used for each character were cringe-worthy. I had to stop it after the first chapter..

Couid have been so much better

A bit of lazy writing at the start but that section is over pretty fast, once he actually becomes a core it starts off well enough and has some potentially interesting world building and i was excited for the idea of a proper scifi dungeon core story with scifi tech and such, Sadly its never really delivered upon as everyone BUT the mc has access to scifi gear dude gets pitfall traps, prison shanks, bright orange jumpsuits, giant rats and blunderbusses well meanwhile everyone else has scifi guns, turrets and armor and it really stretches the suspension of disbelief most of the time. Story wise the mc is an idiot who ignores all warning and potential consequences at any given moment because Merica and i love the us navy, the humans are just plain annoying and idiotic most of the time. Voice acting, the mc and pixie sound good enough but almost everyone else sounds ridicules. I got to the last hour of it and quit because id lost all suspension of disbelief and was just waiting for a deus ex machina to save the mcs dumb ass.
