Carl Joachim Friedrich Ludwig Achim von Arnim, Sohn einer preußischen Adelsfamilie, wurde am 26. Januar 1781 in Berlin geboren. Neben Clemens Brentano gilt er als Hauptvertreter der "Heidelberger Romantik". Nach einem Studium der Rechtswissenschaften in Halle an der Saale und der Mathematik in Göttingen brach Achim von Arnim mit seinem Bruder zu einer Bildungsreise durch Europa auf. Gemeinsam mit Brentano, dessen Schwester Bettina er 1811 heiratete, gab der Autor 1806-1808 die Volksliedsammlung "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" heraus. Die zahlreichen Dramen, Prosawerke, journalistischen Arbeiten und Gedichte, die er hinterließ, gelten als bedeutende Werke der deutschen Romantik. Achim von Arnim starb am 21.
