I 1986 og 1988 drog Christian Lygum Christensen som leder af ekspeditioner ind i Guatemalas jungleområder for at udforske Mayaindianernes tempelbyer. Christian Lygum Christensen, f. 1957, er arkæolog og forfatter. Han gennemrejste Centralamerika under borgerkrigene i 1976, 1979, 1982 og har gennem sin tid i regionen fundet talrige levn fra mayabyer og hellige mayagrotter.
