Publisher's Summary

This fictional novel is loosely based on the popular, chart-topping, intriguing song from 1972, "Delta Dawn", by Larry Collins and Alex Harvey.

Delta suffered anoxia when she was born, and it left her with a lower than normal IQ and learning disabilities. Her mother felt that she was to blame, so she left Delta and her father, Frank Dawn, when Delta was just two years old. Frank’s sister, Rose, helped him raise Delta.

Delta was able to get through the sixth grade, and was able to do some babysitting and some simple jobs until she got a job at Kelly’s Diner. Delta was able to concentrate and do a good job waitressing until “her Tom” came in. He was Tom Easton, a tall, good-looking man who drove a truck for the local cotton mill. She absolutely adored him. He was nice to her, but he was the “man about town” and dated several of the local women. Delta would fantasize about them being together one day. Would they ever be together?

Delta’s father had worked at the neglected Sheffield cotton mill for 30 years and was now very ill with brown lung disease, along with several other workers, from breathing cotton dust for all those years. Would the greedy and abusive mill be held responsible for all their ill employees and be forced to make changes and compensate them?

Tom ended up in jail for assaulting John Sheffield, Jr. because he had attempted to molest Delta. Delta wrote to him every day. Tom realized that Delta truly had a golden heart in all that she did. Did this change how he felt about Delta as a person? Did they now have a future together?
