Publisher's Summary
The smash-hit best seller that inspired the acclaimed 1972 film starring Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox is now available in unabridged audio for the very first time.
The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the state's most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance.
This classic tale is vividly read by movie and TV star and Audie Award-winning narrator Will Patton.

Manly urbanites against the world
This is an action thriller told by a poet. Four men throw themselves recklessly into a disappearing wilderness expecting to be challenged. The tests they face from man and nature are what they expected and yet are not. The action is well told. The narrator’s emotions are told with lyrical depth. For me, the quality of the writing caused the whole work to rise above the gender bias (women have strictly subordinate roles) and stereotyping of rural citizens. This will possibly be one of my favourite novels of all time (but it may be too soon to say).

This River Don't Go To Aintry
An exceptional American Classic. Deliverance is of course well regarded as John Boorman's 1973 film. But in its original form, as James Dickey's 1970 novel, the world comes to life. Its language is poetic and beautiful, and here in the Audio book, Will Patton's performance is perfect. Highly recommended.

Exceptionally good, deliverance indeed.
Leaves you gasping, with the raw visceral images if a moonlit sinuous river and how four men struggle for survival on its rapuds and cool cruel depths.

Decent adventure story
This was quite a good adventure story. Even though it was written in the 70s, it didn’t really feel dated apart from the lack of mobile phones.
The beginning and the ending were a little bit long and slow paced, I thought. But on the whole, the book was enjoyable and I wanted to find out what happened.
