About this listen

A riveting account of the lives and epic battles of eight Western defenders against violent Islamic jihad that sheds much-needed light on the enduring conflict with radical Islam

In Defenders of the West, the author of Sword and Scimitar follows up with vivid and dramatic profiles of eight extraordinary warriors—some saints, some sinners—who defended the Christian West against Islamic invasions.

Discover the real Count Dracula, Spain’s El Cid, England’s Richard Lionheart, and many other historical figures whose true and original claim to fame revolved around their defiant stance against jihadist aggression. An instructive and inspiring listen; whereas Sword and Scimitar revolved around decisive battles, Defenders of the West revolves around decisive men.

A great account of either forgotten or defaced heroes. with a wide range of contemporary commentary. This book gives the ready a deep understanding to the grievances and motivations of the people in that age.
I recommend this to you.

Excellent

We in the west only hear about the western heros, some of these guys like Skanderbeg are incredible and unknown.

Amazing stories I have never heard before.

Superbly written, history as it should be, mostly from primary sources (or as we would call them in news, eye witness accounts) with no academic overlays, graphically illustrating what a profoundly evil influence Islam has been on world history. Should be compulsory reading for Penny Wong, the baleful foreign minister of Australia, and actually compulsory reading for all high school students and starry eyed lefties.

BRILLIANT

I had very little knowledge of the crusades, the Ottoman Empire, and the Christian heroes. This book filled in a lot of gaps.

Great overview of the Crusades and some leading figures

Such an intense time to live in, go one way you get beheaded, the other way impaled, another way and you’re getting skinned alive or sold into slavery. Sheesh. “The past is a foreign country” reflects this book well.

Great but brutal
