About this listen

When Sergeant Hamish Macbeth is sent to investigate reports that the wealthy new laird of the remote Naglar House has disappeared, north-west Scotland is hit by the worst storm in living memory.

The road is washed away, phone lines are down, mobile reception is dead and his police radio is out of order. He is trapped with the laird's high-class house guests. Then he discovers the laird's body.

Forced to remain overnight at the house, he interviews each of the guests and pieces together an alarming picture of clandestine infidelity, vicious jealousy, deadly revenge, lust, greed and fear. It begins to look like all of the guests had good reason to want the laird dead, but which one of them actually did the deed?

To short Not worth a credit

Story line is to short and not as complex, compared with previous novels In this series. Certainly not worth a credit. Very disappointing for the second to last novel in this series.

Too short

Great story as usual but too short. Also it finished at a gallop. Could’ve kept story at the same pace & gone for another 30mins

Not worth a credit

Never heard such a short Hamish mcbeth story. Was so disappointed. With M C Beaton gone I don’t think it can go on without her if this is all that can be accomplished

No trace of MC Beaton here

No logic to how Hamish leaps to his conclusions. I listened twice thinking I had missed a clue but no its just a random naming of the murderer. The Hamish character is poorly written with none of his usual warmth and depth. This book should be a give away but more suitably trashed. At the audible book $ rate for one hour of listening makes this one of the most expensive books ever.
