Editorial reviews

Told through the eyes of a 13-year-old girl, Dear America: The Diary of Piper Davis documents the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the start of World War II, and the introduction of Japanese internment camps. Newbery Honor author Kirby Larson writes this series, The Fences Between Us, for students in fourth through seventh grades. Voiceover artist Elaina Erika Davis performs this story beautifully. She puts all of her passion into each word, embodying how Piper must have felt during these trying times. Her leisurely pacing is ideal for young listeners. This series gives kids a chance to learn about history while being engrossed in good, character-driven stories.
