Desperately needed a pre-read
I'm not sure whether it would have helped this narrator, but his inflections and emphasis were often totally wrong, and he had odd breaks in and between sentences.
The story itself was an easy listening and not at all taxing crime story. However do not read if you don't like descriptions of animal cruelty (and that's the vast majority of people) or fast-forward through those bits.
It's odd as I find it hard to listen to a bad narrator, but I didn't mind this quite so much. Maybe because it was a freebie. I'm still not giving him more than two stars though.. it was a shoddy effort.

Good
The storyline was good. I was still drawn into the story and I still want to listen to the next book.
The longer I listened, the more I grew accustomed to the narrators different style.

Poorly written and poorly read. It felt amateurish
Tedious and badly plotted. Self published? Poor use of vocabulary and a narrator who couldn't put pauses in the correct place. No idea of how to pull the listener into the story. Gave up.

Terrible narrating
I actually don't know if this book was well written or not as the narration was absolutely terrible. It honestly felt like he had not read the story beforehand and so the way he chose to inflect his voice and emphasise certain sentences meant he completely changed the meaning of what was being said. He also completely changed the characters, making them shallow and one dimensional.
The issue was there in the first book as well, however I persevered with the second, hoping it would improve. Unfortunately it went the opposite way and I stopped the book with 45 mins to go - there was simply no point continuing.
