Not an American zombie gun fest
Lots and lots to like in this tight series. Having read/heard a bunch of American post-apoc thrillers recently, I found this refreshing and far more to my liking. The cast is ensemble, and plausible, most Young Adult in age composition. Their reactions are those of sane people under pressure but the best part is that there is no ex-Navy Seal square-jawed loner with an arsenal in sight.
The slow unfolding was really nicely played out, the intersections of plots and characters neat and well-written, and there was a sense of place - they sounded like Danes in Denmark trying to cope with global catastrophe.
Happy to explore other Nick Clausen based on this.

Different
Really enjoyed this. Good characters and not so many that it gets confusing. Different take on how it all happens.

Enjoyable zombie romp
I enjoyed this series and recommend it for anyone who also enjoys zombies and is sick of zombie fiction always ending up in a morass of humans behaving worse than the zombies (though if you're into that, there is a wee bit, it's just not overwhelming). A little wordy in places and totally unbelievable resolutions, but if you want science and sensibility, why the heck are you reading zombie fiction? Has a good spread of human reactions and behaviours, including bravery, humour, fear and sacrifice, heroism and villainy. I liked it!

One of the best I've ever listened to
The title says it all. Right from the get go it gave me exactly what I wanted. A whole story of a zombie apocalypse, how it begins, how society breaks down, and how everything ends. I can't stress enough that I went into this completely blind, not knowing what to expect, really not expecting much. Zombie stories are my favourite, nothing compares.
The author writes every character with so much depth and they're relatable and easy to invest into. The author isn't afraid of killing off characters, and it only makes the story all the better.
I've enjoyed the likes of Keith C Blackmore's Mountain Man, Mark Tufo's Zombie Fallout and R.R Haywood's The Undead. There are many others too, zombie stories make up the majority of what I look for. But for me, those three have stood at the apex of Best of All Time zombie stories. And I never thought I'd find something that in my opinion, is just as good. Then again, even with those three it's all just a matter of taste but that's beside the point.
The point is, Dead Meat is absolutely worth investing your time into. I wish there was more, I really do. There isn't enough I can say about this. Nick Clausen, thank you so much for writing such a wonderful story. And Matthew Crow, you delivered each character wonderfully. I am genuinely grateful.
You know when something is THAT good, or at least leaves such an impression on you, that it becomes a standard? You start thinking, "I want something like this," or "I hope I can find something as good as this". As I mentioned earlier, this book series gave me everything I've wanted in a zombie apocalypse story. How it begins, society breaking down, people trying to survive, literally DAY TO DAY survival. So many well-written characters that are truly human. Imperfect, and that's what makes them so great.
I'm just droving on now, really. Thanks again, author and narrator.

alright zombie story
great premise with great word building. the voice actor is great too but where it fails is the characters. I can't stand people who answer questions with questions in tense situations and every 2nd person does it and to add to that almost every single person does something stupid. most people refer to some zombie series or movie and everyone denies what they are looking at.

Absolute dross
When you are hoping for the slaughter of the main characters within the 1st 11 chapters, you know that the remaining chapters are not going to improve your outlook.
The author has decided that weakling imbeciles who say they've watched all the zombie films suddenly forget everything about them.
DON'T waste your time & money on this, plenty of other excellent zombie genre books & collections available.

not very good
I think this book is aimed at young adults. The story is not very interesting and too many leaps of faith are required by the reader as the characters do stupid things repetitively and die. I get what the author is trying to do in setting up how a break out of zombie infection may progress in the early days but with 28 hours left to go on the book unfortunately im putting it away as a lost cause.
