Publisher's Summary

It's a race against time as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace tries to stop a grieving mother from taking the law into her own hands in Dead Man's Grip, by award winning crime writer Peter James.

A university student is killed in a tragic traffic accident while riding their bicycle. When two of the drivers involved are hunted down by a sadistic killer, Grace knows that the third driver, Carly Chase, may be next.

Carly, a solicitor, believes hiding is not an option and heads to New York to speak with the cyclist’s mother. But Grace knows about the mother’s underworld connections and that the family will stop at nothing to take an eye for an eye . . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Dead Man's Grip is the seventh thrilling title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Not Dead Yet and Dead Man's Time.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Another good Roy Grace story

An excellent plot as usual with lots of twists and turns. Not as keen on the new reader for this one as I was used to the original one.

Best

In series so far! Really enjoyed this book, thoroughly recommend for Roy Grace fans or anyone! Kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end . . . with a real teaser of an ending.

Another great novel Peter!

Loved it! Great pace, plot and sub-plot. I'm always gripped at the end, hopeful of another potential victim being saved, but sad for the previous murders. Thanks for being great heroes Grace and his team!

One flaw

I love the Roy Grace book series from Peter James. The books are great and move a long with good pace and subplots. Dead Man’s Grip started out well, but then had one major flaw. (Spoiler Alert). When a Chartered Surveyor calls in out of the blue with just one idea to search an old tunnel under the Harbour, Roy Grace immediately drops everything whilst in the middle of coordinating a large search to race to search it personally even though there is no evidence or link to a good reason to go. In Brighton, there are thousands of places that the killer could have hidden; there are hundreds of places that the Chartered Surveyor could have picked; and in the circumstances Grace would have either diverted resource to look in more probable places or sent a more junior officer to look. I know it’s fiction. I normally give Peter James five stars. But that one moment in the story was so ridiculous and against the run of the story and the character of Grace that it spoilt the end of the book. Just felt like a quick end to the book was needed and it was a lazy way to connect the dots. I will buy the next book, but this one falls flat for me.
