في قديم الزمان كان يحكم أحد الأمصار ملكٌ جبار اسمه "زنكار" وكان أهل البلد يخافونه ويرهبونه حتى يخشى الواحد منهم أن يذكر اسم الملك في مجلسٍ من المجالس..

وفي ذات يوم خرج إلى الغابة مع جنوده وعندما غابت الشمس لم ير الجنود الملك وتعجبوا من اختفائه.. وكان زنكار قابعاً بين الأشجار الهائلة يرتعد من الخوف تفزعه الأصوات حوله: فهذا زئير أسود وهذا عواء ذئاب فصار يسد أذنيه من الرعب!!

مشى الملك في الغابة مضطرباً يبحث هنا وهناك لعله يجد المخرج من هذا المأزق إلى أن رأى من بعيد منزلاً صغيراً مشى إليه تتعثر قدماه من شدة الإعياء وطرق الباب فظهر له صاحب الدار وأخبره زنكار أنه هو الملك...فما الذي حدث بين الملك وبين صاحب البيت حتى طلع الفجر؟ وما هو السبب الذي جعل الملك يفكّر بتغيير أسلوبه وحياته؟!
