About this listen
A sweeping saga of lost love and tangled family secrets in the beautiful Victorian countryside.
When your world falls apart the only person you can depend on is your sister.
The three Chirnwell sisters are descended from the privileged squattocracy in Victoria's Western District – but could a long–held secret threaten their family?
Harriett Chirnwell has a perfect life – a husband who loves her, a successful career and a daughter who is destined to become a doctor just like her.
Xara has always lived in Harriet's shadow; her chaotic life with her family on their sheep farm falls far short of her older sister's standards of perfection and prestige.
Georgie, the youngest sister and a passionate teacher, is the only one of the three to have left Billawarre. But is her life in Melbourne happy?
All three sisters have a different and sometimes strained bond with their mother. Despite this, they come together to organise a party for her milestone birthday – the first since their father's death. But when Edwina arrives at her party on the arm of another man, the tumult is like a dam finally breaking. Suddenly the lives of the Chirnwell sisters are flooded by scandal. Criminal accusations, a daughter in crisis and a secret over fifty years in the making start to crack the perfect facade of the prominent pastoral family.
A thought provoking novel about family expectations, secrets and lies.

A good Aussie read
I enjoyed getting to know this family - or extended family as it turns out. Some twists were predictable - but a few others on there that I wasnt expecting. A good saga that kept me listening and will look for more of the authors books - I do like a good gossipy story where you get the ‘know’ the characters feel like you don’t want to say goodbye at the end!

Loved, Loved, Loved this Story!!
One of the best audios I have listened to in a long time. Loved the 5 women within 3 generations all with different personalities. Listening for over 16 hours went too fast. I didn't want it to finish.
Great narrators and great book. Thanks Fiona Lowe :)

Not great
I don’t like writing negative reviews as I can appreciate the author worked hard on building the characters of this book however the story was just so dull.
I was going to stop half way because the story was so slow (also the narrator was so slow I was listening on 1.25x speed). I finished it because I thought it would pick up or something would happen. But everything towards the end was just underwhelming. I was surprised when the book just finished and I was still waiting for a dramatic climax.
I think what failed this book was having too many characters (the author did build them up well) but since time was shared with everyone, no story seemed all that fulfilling or complete. Yeh a bunch of random stuff happens but the best word to describe it all is underwhelming. Disappointing purchase.
