Familiar but heartwarming!
The narrator does a fine job in enacting the book. Barring a few loose ends here and there and drawing inspiration from previous writings, this book is cute. Can see it being adapted into a film.

Brave Characters
A very enjoyable book that is a twist on the normal high school romance stories. It makes you stop and think about some of the issues that must swirl around a persons decision to come out.

A decent book
Great story. Bryson is amazing. A little more affection would have been better between the main characters

Great book
Great characters, loved their love. Enjoyed the storyline. it's sad that there's still a taboo to any form of love.

Sweet and touching
This is pitched as a lighthearted romcom but this is a genuinely touching story of isolation and acceptance as our MC, Kai, wrestles with staying closeted from everyone he cares about. It feels like so much of this book is grounded in lived experience. It touches not just overt hate but on causal homophobia in supposedly safe spaces, and those grey areas when ‘good’ people do horrible things.
Date Me BK is a wonderfully refreshing gay romance which focuses on story telling rather than titillation. Kai and Bryson felt very real, lovely and joyous and sad as they were. For me, this is what representation looks like. I hope it receives the attention it deserves.(Also, I’m pretty sure I had that guidance counsellor. Too real to laugh at).

Riveting and uplifting and romantic. Authentic storytelling at its best.
I wasn’t completely sure at the beginning of this book, because I’m not a huge fan of the “fake dating” romance tropes. however, it seemed fun, so I thought I would stick it out – am I glad I did! Before I knew it, the story took off in a way I did not expect, resulting in a thrilling and enjoyable ride. Kevin Van Whye’s writing has a refreshing authenticity based in reality, which magnifies the meaning and value of his storytelling - I think I’ve found a new favourite author! The audiobook narrator is brilliant and moving - I laughed, I cried and just could not stop listening. I’m going to listen again, just as soon as I finish wiping the tears from my eyes…
