Kaum eine andere ist so oft interpretiert und in neue Zusammenhänge gebracht worden, und nicht umsonst hat der Name des Unglücklichen seine Spur selbst im alltäglichen Sprechen hinterlassen. Wo von "Hiobsbotschaften" die Rede ist, assoziiert man "schlechte Nachrichten", und das nicht zu Unrecht, doch was widerfährt Hiob, warum ihm, wie reagiert und wie endet er eigentlich?

Roger Willemsen hat den alten Stoff bearbeitet und ihn für Erwachsene, aber ebenso für Kinder ab etwa acht Jahren, so neu erzählt, dass nicht die Frage des Gottesglaubens, sondern der Umgang mit dem Unglück im Zentrum steht. Entscheidend für diese Version der Geschichte ist nicht vor allem der Einbruch der Katastrophe in eine glückliche Welt, sondern der Versuch, diese Katastrophe zu verstehen, zu wenden und sich über das unvermeidliche Unglück zu trösten.
