Als die Gutsherrin plötzlich schwer erkrankt, bringt der Hengst mitten in der Nacht den gerufenen Arzt mit einem kühnen Ritt so schnell es nur geht zum Gutshof. Nach diesem wichtigen "Rennen" wird der Hengst ernsthaft krank. Direktor Lehmann muss Gut Sonnenhof aufgeben und alle Pferde verkaufen. Dadurch beginnt für Black Beauty und die Stute Ginger eine schwere Zeit auf Schloss Föhrenstein.
