Publisher's Summary

After a lifetime of bad decisions, PI Caleb Zelic is finally making good ones. He's in therapy, his business is recovering and his relationship with his estranged wife, Kat, who is pregnant after a devastating history of miscarriages, is on the mend after heading for divorce. However, life has other plans in store for him.

Soon Caleb is drawn into the tangled world of his troubled ex-partner Frankie, whose addictions had her working with criminals and endangering Kat - and this time their pairing leads to a confrontation with the cops.

When Frankie's niece is kidnapped, she and Caleb must work together against time to save the child's life. But can Caleb trust her after her past betrayals? As the bodies pile up, Caleb must also find who is sabotaging his friend Alberto's catering business and vandalising his Deaf community cafe.

Ok

I know I shouldn’t judge a book by the narrator, but I suppose I had built a view of the characters and their personalities in my head from book one and two by the voice of the narrator. So this one just through me a bit and I suppose I never really settled. note to self - start reading again for myself - I just love the convenience of audio books.
Also - absolutely nothing wrong with the narration.

Tight compelling story telling

Viskic's complex characters evolve and struggle to accept betrayal and to come to terms with what they had to do to survive, and keep going on. Highly recommended. Gripping action, interesting settings, laugh out loud banter.

More Than a Brilliant Crme Novel

It is impossible to write a review of this challenging novel without exposing spoilers. All I can do is to recommend that you challenge your truest self; your deepest values and sense of truth. Listen to this brilliant performance of Emma Vìskic's complexities of characters and circumstances.. I especially love the central character who wasn't born deaf but became deaf as a result of injury or illness and whose job requires him to communicate with all kinds of people. Having learned Auslan for a few years I also enjoyed the references to the deaf community and the difficulties faced at times.
