Once you're online, there's nowhere to hide. Is it paranoia – or is someone watching?
For years, Reagan Carsen has kept her life offline. No socials. No internet presence. No photos. Safe.
Until the day she stumbles on a shocking murder in a Sydney laneway. The victim looks just like her.
Coincidence?
As more murders shake the city and she's increasingly drawn out from hiding, Reagan is forced to confront her greatest fear.
She's been found.
A riveting psychological thriller drawn from true events, Dark Mode delves into the terrifying reality of the dark web, and the price we pay for surrendering our privacy one click at a time.
‘Thrilling and twisty – get ready to be paranoid' J.P. Pomare, author of The Wrong Woman
‘Absolutely terrifying! I turned every page with my heart in my mouth, utterly hooked by this explosive thriller. Ashley Kalagian Blunt taps into the dangers we face online every day and the monsters in our midst. Dark Mode is a powerful and disturbing story which will keep you thinking long after you've finished reading.' Petronella McGovern, author of The Liars

Clever, real and kept me hooked
Dark Mode should be 2023 psychological thriller of the year. The characters and plot were cleverly written, while also putting the spotlight on a real world problem: the author opens to say that while the story is fiction, “the attitudes that drive these crimes are real, and they are everywhere”. Dark Mode is a thrilling unpredictable read that will keep you hooked.

Dark mode
A chilling and thought provoking story, that forces you to think about human behaviour and the terrifying things that the internet gives an outlet to.

Scary, authentic and great narrator
A story that keeps you listening when you know you should be in bed. The subject matter is terrifyingly real and this story ends perfectly. Any other ending would not have been authentic. Narrator perfectly captured Reagan.

The narrator killed it for me
I enjoyed the story though I didn’t love the ending.
A little heavy on the women-hating, but I haven’t read many books like this so maybe it’s just not for me.
Absolutely hated the narrator.
She spoke way too fast, sometimes not even pausing between paragraphs so you’d think she’s still reading a scene when actually she’s moved on to the next one.
Sounded like a robot at times and used a much too cheery voice for Reagan.
I felt like Charlie from Hi-5 was talking to me when she’s supposed to be fearing for her life.
All in all, worth the read.
I think I would’ve got a better experience having read the book instead of listening.

A rare peek into the psyche behind men’s “rights” groups
A story woven around the insidious & prolific world of misogyny. A scourge usually kept hidden in plain sight. I found the story slow at the start & had to make myself listen, but the plot developed well. I didn’t see the twist coming!

Great characters, gripping story & well narrated
I don't usually read fiction, but I struggled to put this book down. I could not wait to find out what would happen next and look forward to reading more from the author.

Believable
I enjoyed this book and it certainly opened up a lot of conversations about safety and privacy and how we are perceived and what we share of ourselves and how we share those things that can be inviting to preditors. Every review I had read prior gave a lot of warnings about the content but I didn't find it required that, the red flags were scattered throughout the book and very obvious and yet it might have been because it was a little too close to home for some who may have found themselves exposed in the past. be uase ultimately the themes explored in the book happen and everyone knows someone who has been effected in some way by those themes expressed.
Good read I'd probably say its more geared toward young adults.
